Pain and Neuroinflammation Imaging Lab

Jennifer Murphy

Clinical Research Coordinator

I graduated as a National Merit Scholar from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2022 with an Honors BS in Biology and a minor in Public Health. At UTD, I was a cohort leader of the Texas Emergency Medicine Research Associates Program. I also volunteered with a hospice program and at UT Southwestern Clements Hospital in the Comets Hospital Elder Life Program. Outside of class, I was a member of the Dallas Symphony Chorus and a piano accompanist for various UTD vocal and instrumental classes, as well as the director of the university’s premier a cappella group and music director of the LCA Alumni Musical Theatre program.

My research background includes a clinical research project at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology assessing the effectiveness of group prenatal care in improving birth outcomes for higher-risk patients. My Honors thesis was the creation of a group prenatal care program with the intent to lower low birthweight and preterm birth rates in the state of Texas.

As a former Loggia Lab intern, I am excited to be returning in a new role and collaborating with Dr. Jodi Gilman at the Center for Addiction Medicine on a study that investigates the effectiveness of cannabidiol on reducing neuroinflammation associated with chronic low back pain. Using the only FDA-approved CBD drug product, we hope to understand more about CBD’s anti-neuroinflammatory profile and its potential for helping pain conditions.
